Faith Technologies Craft Competition Results in Success

Over the past few weeks, several of our apprentices have been working hard preparing for their electrical journeyman worker exams, and some of them were recently given the unique opportunity to practice their skills and show off their talents.

In December, Faith Technologies hosted its first internal skills competition for the top 10 fourth-year apprentices from Faith’s in-house apprenticeship program. The competition aimed to find out which of the 10 apprentices will be sent to the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) National Craft Championships in Long Beach, California, and overall was a great success!

Please enjoy our recap video here:

Day One began with a grueling 2+ hour timed written exam that was geared to test their knowledge of their years of schooling. Their next task was to make two different types of conduit bends where the judge, a Value Stream Leader at Faith Technologies, was looking for the most accurate work to match the instructions they were given, with no dog legs.

Day Two involved a hands-on tactile lab. The competitors were to mount a double meter socket, two panels, lights, doorbell, AC disconnect, receptacles, and various switches at numerous heights and locations, per the instructions. All the competitors shined in this lab segment and really showed off their skills.

Day Three, the final morning, was all about thanking the competitors for doing a great job, and acknowledging their hard work in and out of the classroom. During this time, we were also excited to congratulate to the winner of the competition, Justin Shepherd of Faith Technologies’ Green Bay branch! We also congratulate our second and third place competitors, Cody Kaderabeck and Jeremy Smelzer, and all of the apprentices who participated.

A special thank you to our sponsors, Werner Electric Supply, Leviton, Lakeshore Electrical Sales, IDEAL Industries and Schneider Electric for helping us showcase the next class of great electricians. Justin and his instructor will be traveling to Long Beach to take on the rest of the country’s top competitors in early March, and we will keep you updated on his progress.
