DAWSON COUNTY JAIL

Dawsonville, GA

Project Size:

68,480 square feet

Project Overview:

Dawson County Jail is a full-service law enforcement agency that serves a community of approximately 20,000 full-time residents and a much larger daytime population. It operates through four main divisions – Patrol/Warrants, Criminal Investigations, Detention and Communications/E-911 Center.

The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office and Adult Detention Center is a new two-story office with a four-level detention cell area. It is approximately 71,500 square feet and houses 200 beds. The jail area is made up of prefabricated metal walls with a six inch slab between the mezzanine levels.

One challenge on this project was to rough in all the connections for the holding cells in a six inch space. The sheriff’s office, holding space and medical area are made up of prefab and block walls. We sent two men to the prefab facility at the beginning of the project to coordinate placement of electrical, data, security and fire alarm boxes. We also assigned one employee for the duration of block wall installation to place the boxes in the block as the masons were laying it to coordinate the schedule as required by the owner.
