Faces of Faith Technologies | Meet Joe, Foreman

FoFT_Joe

At Faith Technologies, we have some amazing employees who make our culture unique. The Faces of Faith Technologies series aims to highlight the talented individuals who work with us. Each month, we’ll introduce you to several of these individuals so you can get to know the ‘Faces of Faith Technologies.’ We recently talked to Joe Loose, a Foreman from our Sheboygan, Wisconsin branch. Here’s what he had to say:

What led you to work for Faith Technologies?

I worked for a large dairy farm in high school and for one year after before deciding that I didn’t want to work on a farm for the rest of my life. I sat down and thought about what I was interested in and passionate about and narrowed it down to carpentry and electrical work. I picked electrical because I figured that electricians mainly work inside, and I preferred not to work outside in the winter. I later found out that electricians do work outside in winter!

I started out at a smaller company doing residential work, but that became fairly repetitive – if you’ve wired one house, you’ve wired them all. I then chose to join Faith Technologies in 1998 as a helper and completed Faith’s apprenticeship program. I left in 2012 to work at a smaller shop, which eventually closed, so I was happy to have the opportunity to come back to Faith in 2014. Since coming back, I’ve had the opportunity to move into a foreman role.

What does your position entail?

As a foreman, I spend time scheduling, leading crews, meeting with engineers and doing a lot of documentation. I’ve been on my current project for over a year, so I’ve been able to learn a lot about the project owner and their business needs.

What are some of your favorite things about your job?

I really enjoy how open our crew is to new ideas. I like to try new things and be innovative, and my team is supportive of creativity. If you don’t try something new, you’ll never know if it will work. I like to challenge the crew with questions about what they’ve learned. Big or small, everyday holds a lesson.

My path at Faith has not been typical of others, since I enjoyed my work as an industrial electrician and wasn’t looking to climb the corporate ladder quickly. But I was able to learn so much by being involved in a project with a major international customer, which also gave me the opportunity to travel. I’m now able to lead teams based on that experience, along with the leadership training Faith provides. I’ve had a lot of opportunities along the way, and that really set the foundation for where I am today.

What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of work?

I love spending time with Kari, my wife of 10 years, and our sons Landen (8) and Austin (6). I enjoy supporting them in extracurricular activities, such as taekwondo and Cub Scouts. I also really enjoy creating things in metal and wood work; I came up with a fishing tip-up that uses a mouse trap. I also like to hunt, fish and camp – I just enjoy being outside.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I don’t really focus on the far-off future. I’m just happy to go home to my wife’s and kids’ smiles. As long as they’re happy, I’m happy.

What’s your why?

My why is definitely my family. Safety is always on my mind, because I know that I need to go home to them each night.
