In the Spotlight: LEED
Tomorrow, April 22, is Earth Day – a day intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth. Now celebrating its 41st anniversary, Earth Day’s initiatives encourage billions to accelerate the global green economy and transition from a traditional, fossil fuel-based economy to one that is based on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainability.
Faith Technologies recognizes sustainability not only during the month of April, but year-round. In 2010, we created an electrical savings widget as a way to promote energy savings and determine lighting energy savings in manufacturing, warehouse, and office environments. And now in 2011, we have become more involved with the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED®) green building certification system.
Faith Technologies has worked on more than 20 projects with LEED® certification, and currently has six LEED® Accredited Professionals (LEED® AP) on staff. These employees are dedicated to finding ways to partner, educate, and demonstrate the benefits of sustainability and best practices within our company. They include:
- Bill Broman, Electrical Engineer
Bill has been an employee of Faith Technologies since 2010. As a licensed electrical engineer, he is responsible for the design of commercial and industrial electrical systems. - Charlie Fredrickson, Vice President of Preconstruction
Charlie has been an employee of Faith Technologies since 2010. As the Vice President of Preconstruction, he is responsible for strategically developing, implementing, and evaluating Faith Technologies’ preconstruction services. - Christine Rahlf, Director of Purchasing

LEED® has provided building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations, and maintenance solutions. These buildings are not just physical objects. They have been used as teaching tools that demonstrate how sustainability can be integrated into the projects we complete. They also inspire our clients, partners, and employees to save money, reduce environmental impacts, and enhance the health and well being of a building’s occupants.
LEED® is just one example of a sustainable best practice that I feel deserves recognition this Earth Day. What are some of your sustainable success stories? In what ways are you getting involved to broaden, diversify, and activate environmental movements? Please share them here.
