Stretching Your Way to Workplace Safety

Did you know that regular stretching is just as important as regular exercise? Every day most of us bend, sit, walk and repeat the same movements. Without stretching, these motions not only tighten our muscles and minimize the range of motion in our joints, but can also put a damper on maintaining an active lifestyle and hinder day-to-day activities. Just as you can benefit from stretching in your daily routine, stretching can also play a critical role in our journey to an injury-free workplace. Making sure employees are physically ready for work reduces injury risk, and promotes a healthy and safe team culture.

In an effort to incorporate stretching into our daily work activities, Faith Technologies has developed a standardized Stretch & Flex program for our workforce. These simple stretches can be completed before beginning work for the day, during our daily ORM, or throughout the day while sitting at a computer. They can also be done at home while watching TV or getting ready for bed. The time commitment is minimal when absorbed into our daily routines, and the benefits are far-reaching.

Especially for professionals, service technicians, delivery drivers, and those who spend much of their work time in seated positions, having an adequate and frequent stretching practice is one of the keys to a healthy lifestyle, and can help to eliminate overall body aches and pains once and for all. The many benefits of stretching include:

  • Better posture
  • Stress reduction
  • Improved circulation
  • Increased flexibility
  • Enhanced coordination
  • Pain relief
  • Increased energy
  • A better sense of well-being

Lack of stretching can lead to build up of acids in your muscles that can cause pain and stiffness. There are plenty of easy stretches that anyone can implement in their everyday routines, and many don’t even require leaving your vehicle or work station. So, before work, after driving and after meal breaks, take a moment to stretch and get moving!
